The criminal justice system is a complex network of institutions and practices designed to maintain social order, deter and punish criminal behavior, and ensure due process and fairness for those accused of crimes. It typically includes law enforcement, the courts, and corrections. The system also emphasizes principles such as the presumption of innocence, the right to a fair trial, and punishment proportionate to the crime. However, the criminal justice system can vary significantly from one country to another and between different jurisdictions within the same country.
